Can i play guitar with acrylic nails. At school we only quickly went over acrylic nails. However acrylic nails are available from Strings by Mail. They appear to be similar to Riconails.
Once they get too long simply cut them into the length you wanted instead of the whole nail. I use a coating on my nails. You can also use the fleshy part of your finger finger picks acrylic nails or artificial nails.
Having great nails all the time can really improve your guitar playing. Im no music pro but I have asked a few musician friends over the years if they knew how she was able to hit all the right chords despite the extra inches on her. So there is a historical basis for playing without nails as well.
This is what I personally use to play fingerstyle as well. You cant fret a string with your nails because its just too unstable and uncomfortable. Wont hurt your natural fingernails.
Steel strung guitars are harder than nylon strings and so will wear down your nails quicker. I have some friends who play guitar and they asked for acrylic nails for picking. Believe it or not many guitarists prefer longer nails on their strumming hand.
For a few months recently I tried to play without nails but I just never got used to it and didnt like the tone either. Our nails have a wide diversity of tone. You grow your nails until they can be used to pluck the strings.
